Botanical Extracts
Basically, a botanical is plant life. However, some consider botanicals to be plants that are used for the therapeutic or medicinal qualities they have. Herbal remedies fall into the same classification, as herbs are members of the plant family. Botanical extracts are made by soaking a part of the plant in liquid. The liquid retains natural compounds from within the plant. The extract can stay in liquid form or it can be evaporated to powder form to be used in capsules.
Plant extracts are commonly used in natural health supplements, health tonics, natural skincare products and in natural shampoos and conditioners. Published research about the characteristics of each botanical and its possible healing properties is in great abundance on the Internet. Botanical extracts may sometimes have a more potent effect when they are formulated together.
